Abhyangha - (ah be yan ga) to anoint the body
with oil, Ayurvedic herbal oil massage. Promotes
peace of mind and strength to the body.
Adaptogens - a term used for a class of herbs and
plant products that stimulate the body to adapt to
change and stress, initiate the repair process and
bring the body back to a state of balanced.
Agni - (ahg ni) bodily fire, the digestive fire.
Ama - Metabolic wastes, environmental toxins,
and undigested remnants of food in body channels.
Aromatherapy - Use of herbal essential oils to
balancing and toning the body, strengthening and
calming the mind and body. Stimulates the adaptive
systems of the body.
Ayurveda - ‘Knowledge of life’, Vedic science of
health.
Blood Purification - Powders and liquids use to
cleanse the blood of toxins and parasites,
Dosha - bodily humor i.e. Vata, Kapha, Pitta;
predominate Dosha is often referred to as ones
body type; literally translated as "that which can
go out of balance".
Ela Kirzhi - (ela keer ree) leaf pouch. Treatment
that uses a pouch full of specialized herbs
formulated to the individual with an Herbalised Oil.
One of the rejuvenation therapies or Rasayana
therapies that stimulate the repair process in the
body. Used for cleansing and stimulation of the
body to anabolic metabolism.
Emesis - also called Vamana, an ancient therapy to
eliminate Kapha accumulation
Homeostasis - the innate knowledge that exists
within the body to return itself to a state of
balance, harmony, and health.
Kalabham - a Siddha Vaidya body treatment,
originally a bath for royalty using herbs and oils to
cleanse toxins from the body, exfoliate the skin,
and provide softer smoother skin. Anti-aging
treatment, reduces wrinkles, increases the skins
proper use of protein for better uptake of collagen
and elastin.
Kashaya - Herbal teas used for cleansing, toning,
or strengthening Doshas and body tissues.
Kaya Kalpa or Kriya Karma are the rejuvenation
therapies that rebuild the body back to its pure
form. Pouches filled with herbs, soaked in
medicated oils are swiftly and gently swept across
the skin increasing absorption of the herbal oils,
enabling nutrients to reach all the cells removing
accumulated wastes, initiating the repair process of
the body. The Ela Kirzhi and Navarra Kirzhi are
the most popular and bring deep relaxation,
quietness of the mind, cleanses the blood, and
enhances the immune system. Only side affect is
softer, smoother skin. Treatments are usually done
in a series of 3,5,or 7, and repeated twice a year for
quickest results.
Leghume - (lay-huem)- herbal pastes taken
internally for cleansing, toning or strengthening
bodily Doshas and tissues.
Lepa - plastering the body with medicated
substances. Used in body wraps to cleanse
impurities from the body, providing softer
smoother skin.
Mantra - sacred sounds: group of sounds that
stimulate physical and physics center of the body.
Nasaya - (naa see ya) nasal insufflation. Herbal
products often used in a powder or liquid form.
Used for sinusitis, headaches, and mental clarity.
Naturopathy believes the power to heal is inherent
in each of us. Naturopathy aims to reach the
perfect balance that lies within each one of us,
regardless of our present age or state of health.
Reaching this level brings healing, in and of itself
naturally, using the body’s own methods.
A Naturopath is one who is trained to advise
individuals on the correct way of living, eating,
meditating, exercising, and use of massage, for their
own being. Following these guidelines along with
Cleansing & Purification Therapies (Pancha
Karma) and Rejuvenation Therapies (Kriya
Karma), one is able to create and maintain a
healthy, strong body blessed with long life.
Navarri Kirzhi - one of the Rasayana therapies
using oils, herbs, milk and seeds that stimulate
repair and rejuvenation of the body. Stimulates
anabolic metabolism, detoxifies the body, provides
softer smoother skin. Anti-aging therapy.
Pancha Karma is an ancient scientific system for
detoxification and renutrifying the body. Pancha
Karma is primarily a preventative therapy taken at
the change of seasons for cleansing the body
wastes and toxins, including excess subtle energy of
the tissues, thereby promoting positive health and
longevity. Pancha Karma means five actions:
Emesis or fasting, Purgation, Nasaya, Blood
Purification, Enema Therapy.
Purgation - A virechana therapy that clears the
lower pathways of the body. A cleansing therapy
cleanses the blood, stomach, small intestines,
colon, kidney, sweat glands, liver, and spleen.
Herbs powders and oils, such as flaxseed,
psyllium, castor oil, senna leaves, triphala, etc to
induce purgation.
Purva Karma treatments loosen and mobilizes
toxins trapped in the tissues, moving them towards
the organs that will remove them. Some of the
therapies include Abyangha massage, Kalabham
body masque, Sandalwood wraps and baths, foot
reflexology, treatments for the scalp and hair, and
facial treatments are all part of these beautifying
and cleansing therapies.
Using selectively harvested herbs, carefully
formulated into specific remedies, Siddha Vaidya
helps in almost every medical condition.
Rasayana - (raa shy a na) an herbal adaptogen or
formula of herbs that stimulates rejuvenation of
tissue. A rejuvenation therapy; incorporating
Rasayana herbs. For arthritis & joint pain, asthma
& bronchial problems, allergies, fibromyalgia,
chronic fatigue, weakness & debility, tiredness,
toxic conditions, back ache and sciatica.
Siddha Vaidya - A ‘Knowledge of health’,
Dravidian science of health and longevity. Holistic
science that includes but not limited to herbal
medicine, meditation, lifestyle and diet,
Aromatherapy, gem & crystal use, astrology,
familiar and personal relationships to help balance
and make whole every individual.
Shirodhara - A thread of oil poured over the
forehead and scalp. Calms the mind & body,
cleanses toxins, improves well being.
Svedana - Therapies used to induce sweating and
elimination of Ama through the largest eliminative
organ of the body, our skin.
Sumug - A Siddha Vaidya facial treatment using
herbs, steam or heat, and oils to reduce wrinkles
and cleanse the face of for a brighter smile and a
happier day.
Thali - A scalp treatment using herbs and oils to
cleanse the scalp, body and mind, improves the
follicle bed and gives luster to the hair.
